Days 4-5 (September 6-7, 2025): Postlude - Garden 2025 and the trip home to Halifax

This is a short postlude, to show some photos of Mom and Dad's 2025 gardening efforts, as well as the trip back home to Halifax.

There are 32 different items in Dad and Mom's 'Garden 2025', from berries and fruit trees to vegetables.


This is quite incredible for a couple of their age!

I was up at 4AM and out the door just after 4:30AM, to drive to St. John's for my flight home.  Wary of moose, it was great to have a full moon to brighten the sky.

The sun had just risen when my Porter Airlines flight took off at 6:53AM.  This is the view of Windsor Lake, which provides St. John's with its water supply.

    I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog about your travels to Twillingate and Bonavista , the photos brought back many memories for me. I always tell visitors to our province if they have time visit these two towns. You did a fantastic job with your photos and explanations. A wonderful experience to have with your parents and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I know you enjoyed your trip with them as well, it was another thoughtful experience.

It was another early rise and another breakfast of ham and eggs in the AirBNB. It was 10AM when we pulled out of the driveway in Bonavista. After some sights in the historic fishing community, we headed to Cape Bonavista (famous for its lighthouse and known as the landing site of John Cabot in 1497). From there, it was on to The Dungeon Provincial Park, Elliston to see cellars and puffins, and then a drive along the Bonavista Peninsula's east coast to visit English Harbour and Trinity.   By the time we arrived back in Clarke's Beach at 5PM, we had driven over 1100KM from Thursday morning to Saturday afternoon. Day 3 (September 5, 2025): Twillingate > Gander > Glovertown > Bonavista

Rise 'n shine was fairly early.  I made ham and eggs in the cottage and got things cleaned up in time for a busy morning of visits got underway. First up: the arrival of a "mystery guest" from my childhood years.  See details below!  Next, we headed back to Durrell for a visit with Edna and Ray Waterman and Goldie Rogers, friends who go way back to the early 1970s. We ended the visits at Eric Horwood's home, another long-time friend and former teacher.  We made stops at Little Harbour and Purcell's Cove on Twillingate South Island before heading back across the causeway at 1:30PM.   We stopped again for another picnic lunch at Cobb's Pond Rotary Park, so impressed we were with it the day before.  Just after 4PM, we pulled into Glovertown for a wonderful catch-up with three of Dad's siblings and a brother-in-law.  Just before 6PM, we set out for Bonavista, with a quick stop at Terra Nova National Park enroute.
